The new GM Retiree Socrates website, www.gmretiree.com, went live on May 3 with additional functionality and features not available for public consumption. The new GM Retiree Socrates website is a secure site that is password protected. During the registration process, retirees will be asked to provide the last 4 digits of their Social Security number, zip code, birth month and birth day to confirm their identity as a GM retiree. In addition, they will be required to provide a valid email address so they can receive retiree eNews, as well as information on local GM events and activities. Be sure to tell your retired family members and friends to log onto the site at www.gmretiree.com today.

HEALTH CARE REFORM: A TIMELINE
The new health care reform law that President Obama signed is complex and will take time to become fully implemented. Here's a report on the UAW website and timeline by Congressional Quarterly for when certain segments of the law are to take place:

UAW VEBA for post retirement health care benefits for UAW retirees:

“GM has successfully completed the transition of post retirement health care benefits for UAW retirees to the UAW VEBA as of midnight on 12/31/09. In the event you have questions about the VEBA, you should call 866-637-7555. Please note that active UAW employees, salaried employees and salaried retirees should continue to direct their health care coverage/benefits questions to the GM Benefits & Services Center. UAW retirees should continue to contact the GM Benefits & Services Center for questions not related to post-retirement health care.”
